Youth Minister-South

PattyBeckers Hello my name is Patty Bekkers and I am the Youth Ministry Coordinator for One Degree Youth Ministry South. I have the privilege to be able to serve students at St. James Parish in grades 6 – 12 as well as inviting the youth at St. Joseph’s Parish in Kellnersville to become involved. I am excited to be able to share with each of these students how they are living their faith in their daily lives. They do good things and sometimes brighten other peoples’ lives without knowing it. Sometimes we all need to have these things pointed out to us in a positive way and these kids are no different. They also need the encouragement to continue doing good even when the good is unnoticed and I hope this is where I come in. I want to help nurture the youth/teens of our parishes. My plan is to be present to them during many of their RE nights, I want to gain their trust, be with them to plan events and get them truly excited about life as a whole; and that includes their faith life also!!!

I have been a member of St James Parish since 1993. My husband, Tom and I moved here together from Green Bay and fell in love with the area. We both grew up relatively close; I am originally from Francis Creek and Tom is from the Appleton area. I have an RN degree and work part time for the surrounding hospitals as a Childbirth Educator. I have also earned my certificate to substitute teach and do so in the Denmark School District as well as All Saints School. I do love working as an educator in all of these areas and there is NEVER a dull moment!

When you see me I am usually walking with a walker. This is due to a diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis (MS), which I have had since the fall of 1988. I do have good days and bad ones sometimes it can be good/bad moments, just depends on the day. All in all this is doing OK.

We have two daughters, Brittney who is at University of Minnesota and Elizabeth who is a Junior at Denmark High School.  Tom and I are active members of the parish; we both taught RE for many years and have now followed different paths in our faith journey. I do continue to work with the young of the parishes through Church time and as coordinator of the summer Fun-n-Faith program. This is a great ministry and really is a very nice introduction for the youth into doing local mission work.

My goal as Youth Minister is to be a presence in the kids’ lives, to gain the kids trust as well as gaining parents trust; working closely with the kids as well as the parents. Then after I have the trust, to open the doors to many opportunities; local, diocesan, and beyond. Your imagination will be your limits.  Plan is to start locally then move up from there!!!!

Jessica Phillips from One Degree Youth Ministry North, and I will be working closely together. We have plans to do many things as a whole group as well as planning some smaller events. We have a few events already in the works and many more going forward. We need to get to know where your interests are and what you would like to do. Where would you like the path of your faith journey to lead you? This will take some time and energy on each of your parts as well. We will be here to implement, to encourage and get things rolling but we need your help.  We need your willingness to be involved and we need your enthusiasm and excitement! We need your ideas.

The Our Father

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen

Hail Mary

Hail, Mary! Full of grace, The Lord is with thee, Blessed are thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now, and at the hour of our death. Amen

Glory Be

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen
